SAFE MODIFICATION - Pistol rack

So I watched this awesome video on youtube and got the idea. I Finally finished it and love the end result. Tell me what you think.

First of all, Yes that is a pink sig mosquito....it is the Fiance's not mine ...I removed several pistols from the rack so the picture would display how the rack looks with pistols on and without pistols on. If you watch the video you will also note that he made his rack to hold 10 pistols.... I upgraded mine to hold 17


So there is it. In fubar's video he stained his piece of wood. As I was doing this project I thought I would be happy without a paint or stain, but I am not and will end up doing somthing after the fact.... Oh well.

btw the heatshrink tubing can be had in rolls from harbor freight. i also saw long (3ft +) lengths at frys. both are pretty cheap, at frys you can get it in a few different colors

looks like i need more handguns so i can build a rack!

I like the concept. But would explore the idea of using Delrin rod, no need to cover in heat shrink or add those caps.

Your welcome all.. i love it so far.. i must note-- after the build i made the observation that my pistols chamberd in 22lr and 25 auto DO NOT fit on the 3/16" rod. I do not have a 380 so i cannot test that. 9mm, 38, 357, 40, 45 fit.... Im going to build a second rack which will mount under the existing shelf which will sit right abouve the rifle barrels.... On that rack i think i may explore a smaller rod to accept my smaller caliber pistols... big bore on the upper and small bore on the lower..... simple enough..

FYI .380 barrel size is the same as 9mm, .38 and .357. If one fits, they all will, unless barrel length come into play.

Another thing you can use is AL or brass rod. No need for the shrink wrap or plastic ends or worry about rust.

.22 will not fit due to the end caps as dtjester stated... perhaps a smaller metal rod of that issue....
