manufactures torque specs...important?

When mounting a rail on a rifle and scope rings how important is it to torque everything down to the manufactures torque specs? Having trouble finding a small hand tool that measures in lb, here at the hardware stores around town. I am contemplating if I should do it by hand and just make sure all the screws tightened down with the same force. Thanks guys!

Its pretty much an issue of if you over do it, you strip out tiny screws. Under do it, and it will loosen up. You got the feel to tighten them down enough without stripping them, go for it. I use blue locktite after degreasing the threads with brake cleaner.

Go to brownells or midway and get one.

When someone home mounts a scope and have problems it is normally a few things.

1) wrong torque
2) mounted scope to rings then to gun
3) cheap rings not lapped
4) not evenly screwed down
5) wrong torque
