Parkerizing Non Chrome Lined Barrel

What have you found is best to plug the barrel and gas port? I've seen references to rubber corks, foam ear plugs, wood dowels, silicon etc.

Ear plugs work good as they expand to seal.

Also run a patch with some light gun oil through the barrel before plugging it. It will prevent any droplets of park solution that might accidently leak inside to reacting to the steel on the inside of the barrel. Just make sure the exposed parts of the chamber and muzzle are properly degreased before dunking it into the parkerizing solution.

I havent tried it, but I've heard laquer (the paint) will protect metal and not be removed by the park. After park, remove the laquer with laquer thinner. I'd like to test this someday on a sample piece of steel.

When the simple action of a selector can rub off park, I don't bother attempting to plug barrel holes anymore.

Other simple suggestions like BTB's is the ticket to not spending an hour making 3 different sized cork/rubber/plastic stoppers that eventually leak when subjected to 180deg temp changes.

didn't plug or cork my non chrome lined barrel..... it's one of my best shooters. I can shoot a birds eye out flying with it beer cans and desert trash don't stand a chance.

depending on the strength of your park solution you may not have to worry about this, many of the big manufacturers don't protect the bore prior to blue/parking, which on a new gun this isn't too much of an issue as parkerizing is most active on the beat/sandblasted surface of the material, and last I checked no one sandblasts the inside of the bore willingly.

You can use just about any laquer or paint to protect the bore during the parkerizing process. Even white-out does a phenomenal job of keeping the acid away from the surface. Whatever you use, make sure it's something easy to take off afterward some people I've seen use urethane laquer which they just strip off with some MEK and a brush after doing the job.
