Refinishing a 'Matte Stainless Steel' Taurus Revolver

Can the finish be removed by aluminum oxide blasting? And would duracoat be sufficient to coat the frame afterwards?

The factory finish is actually quite dull. The gun is a model 66 revolver.

    TIA

Why not just bead blast and leave it stainless?

Would that leave the gun looking shiny like a colt revolver? Sorry I've never actually refinished a real firearm so I figure this would be a good place to start.

If you want it shiny you should polish the stainless. Bead blast will give a satin finish. Fine aluminum oxide would give a very matte finish. It just depends on what you want.

Stainless can be anything from dull to a mirror polish. Most typical is a fine grained finish. Thats the beauty of stainless, its not a finish, just a surface prep.

Makes sense. The finish on this gun isn't consistent and in some places it's actually more or less matte like inside the trigger guard.

I got it cheap so I'm not complaining it will make a good project - thanks for the help!
