    AK Sight adjustment/canted sights

    Hey all,

Just got a new Saiga 7.62 and both the FSB and RSB are canted. I've read about the FSB cant and know it's a regular occurence in AK pattern rifles but can't find so much info on the RSB. I'm curious to know what kind of work is involved in correcting that.
I've contacted TGI (the new Saiga importers) about the issue and they want me to send them a pic (going to take one this evening with my buddy's camera) and also said that as long as you can adjust the sights to hit your target at 100 yards then it is within spec.
Nearest 100 yard range is out of town so I need to free up some time to get out there but I was wondering if any place local to the Solano/Yolo county sells those AK windage adjustment tools or will I need to just order one and wait?

Thanks everyone and please excuse the AK noobness

I think I would go with a Telecaster. The bolt on neck would be the strongest to deal with terrorist zombies. I know most folks will say Strat, but I think the trem system is unreliable.
I mean, who needs to dive bomb when SHTF? That only happens in movies.

Before you do anything shoot the rifle to see if the sights are in alignment. What appears as "cant" may not necessarily effect the point of impact at distance.

In addition did your Saiga come with a test target? it should show how the rifle shot before it left the factory.

The rifle came with the cleaning rod/kit, manual and one mag. I couldn't find a target anywhere in the box.

I was planning on doing an ultimak/micro dot combo to co-witness. Do you see problems with this if the gasblock is straight but the sights are off?

Do you think a TWS or similar system would have fit issues because it relies on the orientation of the RSB?

What are you using to gauge the "cant"? IMO it's not an issue unless your unable to adjust to a decent zero, or you dropped the coin on a "premium" build.

Walk before you run.... First just shoot it to see if the sights are aligned. If they are not aligned use the adjustment in the front sight to correct the issue. IF after some serious testing you cannot properly adjust the sights THEN contact the importer.

I'm 99% sure your sights are fine.

The Ultimak base is a great base, and because of how it mounts is very secure. In addition there is some adjust-ability in the mount when you tighten it down. Regardless though any red dot will have a ton of both windage and elevation adjustment in it.

I worse came to worse you could always buy a East German adjustable rear sight. They work great anyway and are 1000 % easier to adjust for windage than the fixed rear standard sight.....

I cant see how your RSB could be very canted... As long as it's between the ears of the front trunnion it's good to go......

All the Saigas I've shot recently have shot to the right; maybe after test firing they adjusted the sight block instead of the sight post in order to keep the sight centered in the block. I had to adjust my sight pretty far to the side to get it to shoot correctly. Definately try to fire it first, maybe its right on...Saigas usually are made really well, this is the first I've heard of a new Saiga with a canted FSB.

Thanks for the input guys, I just got my sight adjustment tool in the mail yesterday so I'll be heading to the nearest outdoor range this weekend to see what she can do. Also need to start dropping hints to my wife that I want a conversion kit for x-mas...

When you get your conversion kit hit me up. I'm in Solano as well
and have done a few of 'em.
