    1911-A1 Front sight removal

I need advice on how to remove the front sight off a springfield 1911-A1 GI without a special tool. I was wondering if anyone has done it. I've successfully removed and replaced the rear sight and I'm stuck with the front sight. Any advice is appreciated.

The primitive way is to use a brass punch. Tap it gently from the left side to exit the right side with a 4 oz. ball peen hammer (if you have one) again GENTLY. If you want to do it right use the proper tool. That can be easily found at www.brownells.com. Good luck!

You can't use a punch to drift the front sight on a GI, not unless it is dovetailed.
