    AR15 in 762x40wt?

Anyone done this build? I am thinking of trying it out so I can get the mass of the .308 with the AR15 platform. They say that it is just the barrel and possibly the magazine that needs to swap.

I had never heard of this cartridge before today. Now I'm desperately trying to figure out why AAC made .300 Blackout 7.62x35 instead of 7.62x40. If they both fit in the magazine, why restrict powder capacity unnecessarily? You can still load less powder if you want subsonic (which .300 Blackout is designed to be good for).

300 BLK uses a 5.56x45 bolt, unlike the WT. The WT also requires ribs in the magazine to be shaved down.

It came out earlier this year and it really is brilliant. It uses the same lower, upper, bolt and carrier, and can even use the same magazine. Though I am thinking I could get into some hot water with a 10 round mag for these because the mag can also hold 5.56 and it may allow for 11 rounds. I plan on clearly labeling the mag I make for these for 7.62x40WT only.

Looks sweet. Might be my future lightweight hunting platform.

It's the same bolt as WT used a shortened and reformed LC 5.56 cartridge.

Wilson's website claims that the ONLY part different from a 5.56mm AR is the barrel. Are they lying?

35mm is about the longest length which is compatible with normal USGI magazines and P-Mags due to the rib in the mag.

300 AAC BLACKOUT was not compromised one bit in order to be subsonic capable. It was compromised only to work in standard AR15s and magazines.

Oh okay. That all makes sense.
