PTR 91 bullet button problem

Hey guys,

I recently purchased a PTR 91 with a bullet button already installed on it. It appears that he installed it correct, but for some reason the mag catch device on the side of the gun is in its release position. I took a closer look and it appears that if I remove the washer that comes in the kit, the mag catch device will drop back down and hold the magazine in, which is my problem by the way lol, the mag will not lock into the receiver. PLease help with any advice, will removing the spacer cause problems in the future, I don't see how it would?

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about (the PTR-91 bullet button)... YES, removing that spacer CAN cause you problems (legal problems). The spacer is there because without it, it's possible for the magazine release to pivot down if you press too hard on the magazine release button. This presents a legal issue, as you could intentionally do so, then hold a magazine in the magwell to have a no-tools-required detachable magazine setup.

I could use some more explaination of what's going wrong with your rifle, but it sounds to me like you may need to try a different magazine. I have a very tight-fitting 5rd magazine, but other mags I've tried haven't been a problem.

Interesting. Try PM'ing Radd... he's the one who developed this mag lock.

just took washer out and the mag locks in now, no problems, that I can see now.

Update washer is needed!

It seems that you can take the washer out and it will lock just find, the problem is if you push too much on the bullet button the catch lever device on the other side may turn and get stuck in the release position, the pictures above show that the washer was simply in the wrong place, it needed to be right after the spring. This keeps you from pushing the bullet button in too much and getting the lever stuck on the other side, I put the washer back in, which was not easy (use the pin punch to hold the spring and washer together while placing them both in the appropriate place), but I eventally got it to work. Everything is now working perfect.

Yep, this is what I was warning you about in post #2.

the pictures above show that the washer was simply in the wrong place, it needed to be right after the spring. This keeps you from pushing the bullet button in too much and getting the lever stuck on the other side, I put the washer back in, which was not easy (use the pin punch to hold the spring and washer together while placing them both in the appropriate place), but I eventally got it to work. Everything is now working perfect.

Ah, so what you're saying is that the guy you bought the rifle from had somehow managed to put the washer on the wrong side? Interesting... I can imagine that having to take it out and re-install it must have been a total pain.

It was kind of a pain, but on bright side it gave me chance to get more familiar with the BB, so if or I when move to another state I can change it back fairly easily. Thanks for your input though it is greatly appreciated.
