The blind pin must be welded if the barrel is to be installed on a rifle in order to conform to Federal law, which requires permanent attachment of a muzzle device used to bring a 14.5" barrel up to 16" so as to avoid the unlawful making of a SBR (short barreled rifle).

For the OP, I used cold blue and it worked fine.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

Like the Grumpy old cop said, it must meet federal standards for permenence. 1100f silver solder or blind pin and weld.
To the OP, make sure you hit that hole with a square end mill so the pin has a solid shoulder to lock into. I've had more then a couple come through where people just used a drill bit and the muzzle device just spins right off.

I just did one of these on an AK. I personally dont think anything is needed, it should look dark and fairly blend with the gun. You dont need anything larger than say 1/4" of bead to cover a small 1/8" pin and hole. Otherwise, if it doesnt look good or you are affraid of rust or for any reason want to put a finish on it, I would recomend duracoat.

Nice thing with tig is you wont put a lot of extra heat into the muzzle break screwing up the finish. You could always check the finish that the manufacturer puts on their break to keep it similar. Turners and other stores sell the gun blue touch up.
