    80% Sad...

Just had to come onto Calguns and vent a bit.

Decided today was the day to work on my 80% Razor receiver. Dusted off the drill press started to level off the table, oil everything up...Had a plan to document 80% build using a drill press, seemed like it could be done. But as I started checking out my Jacobs chuck, I realized there was just too much wobble to commit to drilling out the barrel hole on the receiver. Had to put away the tools and admit that my old drill press just won't do the job.

Have decided to save up some more cash and buy a few more 80% projects so that I can head down to tech shop in the next few months and just crank them all out on a milling machine.....in the end I'll probably have a better finished product, but it just means a bit more waiting....

Can you post up pic's of your 80% razor? I am specifically interested in how well the finishing work was done. Mine was...well...absolutely awful; not deburred, and poor surface blends all over the place. I love the final product but it was really rough when I got it.

Well, I have been sanding it down a bit with some 600grit wet sand paper. You can see some milling marks especially on the inside of the receiver. It is pretty much what I expected...it is unanodized and I plan on polishing it up...I'll try and get a picture up. I saw that TM is producing an 80% now...I like the taper off of the rail on the razor.

Yah, check out this thread, finish looks a little tighter, but like I said I like the Razor design a bit better for the smooth weaver rail transition, but the TM looks like it would givrpe you a bit more useable rail space, and has the extended rail....my razor was the standard rail receiver.

I can't believe I missed that, I suppose I need to spend more time in the gunsmithing forum. Thanks for filling me in.

All things considered I am happy with my razor receiver but it took a lot of finishing work. I guess now I have another project to put on the list. I will definitely be getting one when they become available to the public.....come to think of it, I have been wanting a charger....hmmm....

I thought about it, but I could buy a TM master kit and go to TechShop and finish off the 10/22, an AR15 and an AR 10 for the same price....that's my plan, one month membership and finish off a handful of receivers....then I can spend the rest of the year working on uppers....

So are you only 80% sad or 100% sad?

Its definitely good when you know when to quit on something instead of just trying to wing it. You'll be much happier in the end.

Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.
