    Wildcat brass

How would I go about creating a new caliber, starting with the brass?
I'm already familiar (read: no hands-on experience but knowledge of process and tools) with swaging bullets. However, if only for R&D purposes, how would one go about creating the brass? Casting? Trimming, crimping, and turning already existing brass? Ordering online from some R&D lab company?

I've looked all over, already, but can't find any info that's truly pertinent to my query...
In the beginning was the 1911, and the 1911 was the pistol, and it was good. And behold the Lord said, "Thou shalt not muck about with my disciple John's design, for it is good and it worketh. For John made the 1911, and lo all of his weapons, from the designs which I, the Lord, gave him upon the mountain.

Fire forming or forming dies are a couple of methods. Post this in the reloading forum and you'll get more/better information.

Its not worth it unless you are using a standard already made parent case.
You need deep draw or extrusion equipment to make the shell, a lathe to turn the extractor groove and a press to bunt and punch the primer pocket. From there most reloading dies will work to taper the case and neck the case.
You can do the cases on a 5 ton arbor press one at a time but at best you could draw one case in 3 or 4 minutes. A medium quality deep draw die would have 4-6 stations and you would need to aneal after the third draw. It would cost you in the $10,000 range at a minimum for the dieset.
      Lots of work little return.

Thanks for the info so far, and I will repost in the Reloading forum.
