    Awesome tutorial and idea.

    I recently bought some old Taurus .38 Specials:

    Do you think electrolysis would be beneficial to these?

      possibly i say give it a try it cant hurt anything, well it cant if you hook up your power supply correctly, you wouldn't want you gun being the sacrificial metal lol

        Thanks, this is great. I don't have any guns or gun parts with any mount of rust where I would need to do this, but over the years I've had hundreds of car parts for classic cars where this would have been handy rather than using a wire-wheel brush. I realize this is a "necro-post" but I think it's one that deserves to be kept alive.

            One addition:
            If youre doing this in a bucket use 3 or even 4 anodes spaced evenly to de-rust the item from all sides at once. I made short wires to run between 3 rods of rebar and used this process to clean my cast iron burners (bbq). Worked perfect. I too used a car battery charger on the 10 amp normal charge.

              This is a nice tutorial, very clear and easy to copy. I followed these directions to clean an old, rusty cast iron skillet. Worked great!
