maybe a 1911 from a 60% frame? I think you'll make some good friends if you can host a build party at the machine shop.

How much machine tool experience do you have? That will dictate a lot. You may be building center punches and key fobs for awhile.

It might be one of those combo mill lathe cnc manual get ups. I personally don't like them. Too much going on on the machine. But if you have a lot of parts that need indexing, their pretty useful.

You can run a cnc machine manually... why?
                      oh this...
                      It's a Single Cylinder - Single Stroke,
                      Internal Combustion Engine,
                      with a Free Floating Piston...

Yes, my vote is for a lentil milled from a larger lentil.

What did I do when I was in your position last year?

Got some cheap ak barrels and practice profiling, cutting crowning.
Made bullet buttons, miscellaneous parts, adapters.
                        Custom ak building tools.
Built up a mauser into a sporter/nam era sniper
Made my own actions wrench for said mauser
                        precision bending jigs

For starters, if you're new to machine tools, you can begin with a big mess and broken, damaged machines and cutting instruments. Maybe some missing fingers and damage to your hearing and vision.

Access to a machine does not imbue you with the skill of metalcraft.

There are plenty of CNC machines with provision for manual operation. Some of those also include a "teach" mode where one cranks the handles manually, while the controller records the moves for repeating them automatically on subsequent parts.

Most manual CNC machines employ a manual pulse generator system for the hand cranks, which provide no feedback to the operator, which I personally find frustrating.
