    AK front trunnion/receiver hole misalignment

So I had to replace my front trunnion during a recent rebarrel project (rookie mistake...don't ask ). My best guess-timated offset is just under .100" using my cheap vernier calipers.

    Would it be easier/better to:

    a) ream and use oversize rivets

    b) weld over receiver holes and re drill

    c) buy an NDS-3 receiver and drill all new holes

Thanks in advance for your input...

I'd use a file to oversize the holes on the receiver. I believe the rivets will fill out the hole, but I could be wrong. I don't think I've ever had holes that badly oversized.

I'm sure one of the AK Team will come to correct me if I'm wrong.

No need to waste a good receiver by buying another. I would get the holes welded, file smooth inside/out and re-drill in the correct location.

+1 for weld, grind, and re-drill.

Now tell us about your other trunnion. Everybody loves destruction.

Not much to tell really, I forgot to lock down my drill press table before drilling the barrel pin hole on a new barrel. About 3/4 through the hole it starts to chirp badly. Luckily the drill bit was a couple sizes under so all I did was elongate one side of the trunnion. It probably would have been fine but I really didn't want to have to buy a reamer & oversized pin.

I think I'm gonna weld over the four holes and re-drill. The lower holes are fine and the front of the trunnion is flush with the receiver.

Weld them up and re drill them.
