    Rear Sight Base stuck

While pressing on the rear sight base (RSB) it stuck part way on.
    Using Toth Tooling for pressing.
The clearance between the barrel OD and RSB ID was about 0.0025". Is this too tight?
How do you press it off?

.0025" is tight but doable. .001" is better. I've had up to a .004" press fit on a yugo M70 and that was TIGHT, about as tight as it should get before things start to break.

As far as taking it off, I've never used toth tooling, but just find a way to support the back of the RSB and press it off. Did you grease the barrel and rsb?

      RSB stuck

      We used anti=galling compound.
      Any tips on removal.
We have a HF 12 ton press.
The trick seems to be where to apply the pressure.
      Thanks

I ended up welding two front stub sides together with some 1/8" flat stock. Also put a bead on both sides to round it to support it better. That is the .004" interference fit that caused that galling. I have heard that an AR-15 wrench will also fit perfectly in that spot. Protect the crown with copper, brass, or aluminum, and press off while you are supporting the barrel band on the RSB.

It shouldn't be stuck with .0025" of a fit though. Thats tight, but not impossibly tight. Rather than press it off, put it on your press instead of the toth tooling and press it on.
