    Ak build help

Looks like the gas block is to far forward on the barrel right? Do I need to punch out pins and tap gas block back? Are the pins cone shaped or straight? What side to punch put from.

    Thanks all!

Does the gas tube move when locked in?
If it doesn't move when the lock on the RSB is down then don't mess with it.
Too tight of a gas tube can affect accuracy.

Now if the tube is loose when locked in then by all means you can move it back if it bothers you.
Every gas tube I have ever pinned the pins were straight but that may be dependant on the year, and country of origin (honestly never seen tapered pins but that doesn't mean they don't exist).

Next thing to think about is the gas port hole.
On the 74s with 90 degree gas blocks the gas port is drilled before installation, and the top of the hole is flared to compensate if it's not perfectly lined up when you press the gas block on.
The 45 degree gas blocks are drilled after the gas block is installed, and the top of the hole IS NOT tapered.
If you move that gas block back you will be covering part of the gas port hole in the barrel. Maybe not enough to affect cycle but then again it might be depending on how far you move it back.

As for tapping the gas block back.
Every one I have ever installed was a press fit, and I installed the block in my 12 ton press.
I doubt a mild 'tap' is going to move it if the interference is correct between the GB, and the barrel.

      Bottom line:
If it functions, and the gas tube isn't floppy loose = leave it be.
It is quite possible that messing with getting it 'perfect' could open up a can of worms for you.

      One last question:
Is that an original barrel that was populated at the factory or a new barrel that someone populated in the US?
If original then for sure leave it be.

Not original barrel. Populated by ak-builder. If you look in the pics the gas tube doesn't seat all the way into the gas block. It looks like gas would actually escape. The tombstone shape holes is what I'm talking about

if the gas tube doesn't move while locked in, then I wouldn't worry about it. There are holes there....gas will escape regardless, it was never designed to be air tight.

I tend to keep 1mm gap on my builds. If you push the gas block too far (if you want NO gap), you'll have problems putting on your gas tube.

Got it. Lock up is tight. I was just worried about a 1/8" diameter hole.

Lock up is super tight but I can literally see right through the holes. This is cool?

                    yep
                    normal
releases excess gas after the initial gas starts the piston moving.
The older AK-47 (not AKM) gas tubes have hole in the tube themselves for the same purpose.
AKM in back, and AK-47 in front.
