80% lower, how to matte paint?

I found some 80% AR lower receivers on the internet and they are hard coat anodized type III but they are still silver. Is it easy to paint them? What kind of paint should be used?

You can use duracoat or Krylon and do it yourself. It depends on how nice you want the finish. They are anodized silver? Got a link?

Surface prep is 80% of the job.

Surface coatings don't stick to machine and hand oils.

      In short:

Wash your lower receivers, twice, in a bath of boiling hot water (fresh off the stove) and tri-sodium phosphate (available at ACE and Orchard Supply Hardware).

Make sure the bath in tri-sodium phosphate is performed in a new, clean container - like a tupperware or rubbermaid.

Agitate the bath/tsp water when the parts are submerged/immersed with a NEW paint stirring stick (available for FREE at ACE and OSH) or something that is new and oil free.

Pour out the water, take out the parts (DO NOT TOUCH the parts with your hands) and follow up with two baths in just Boiling Hot Water in a clean container.

Take the receivers out with NEW, powder free, medical exam gloves, place on a clean surface such as new paper towels, and let them air dry (just like before - DO NOT touch the receivers with your hands or you will transfer hand oil).

If you don't have powder free gloves, you can buy new, white cotton gloves from Harbor Freight. Make sure and bring your 20% off coupon to HF. When you take the cotton gloves out of the bag, try and not touch the surfaces that will come in contact with your parts. In fact, don't take the gloves out of the bag until you need them...

Hang parts with wire coat hangers, and spray away with the coating of your choice.

Brownells is a great place to buy quality coatings - they have all the major brands as well as their own (which get great reviews so don't sell them short).

HTH - I added some more thoughts

I googled 80% lower AR 15, several sites came up but the silver that is anodized is at tacticalmachining.com.

No problem - PM me if you have any questions - but I think you get the picture - you can't be too clean when it comes to the surface prep ;-)

Maybe its just me but I think if its still "silver" it doesnt sound like its been anodized yet.

The receivers in the white (silver) are not anodized. The anodized ones are black.

                This is our anodizing.

Ok, that makes more sense. The receiver is already silve so clear anno would make moresense than silve anno. The TM milspec I great!
