    Mas49/56 grenade sight reinstallation question

I originally posted this under Curios & Relics. Maybe it will get some responses under Gunsmithing.

Do you have a MAS 49/56 French rifle?

Have you removed the grenade sight on the MAS 49/56 without damaging the three springs in the sight assembly? If so and you still have the spring and they are in good reusable condition, are you willing to part with them?

I don't live in California. I have a MAS 49/56 without the grenade sight and am trying to restore it. All the parts are on my workbench except the springs. I've search and search and cannot find them anywhere. Not just any spring will do. They have to have a high spring rate (stiffness) (also be of the correct dimensions to fit) for the sight to work properly.

I hoping that maybe one of you who has one and has removed the grenade launcher & muzzle brake, has also removed the grenade sight and still has the springs.

If you do, send me a email (OtherMH@att.net) Thanks!

    Pics of springs?

I'm sure you can find them in a spring manufacture catalog.

I'VE GOT A PICTURE BUT DON'T KNOW HOW TO POST IT IN A REPLY.

I HAVE SPOKEN WITH SPRING MANUFACTURER'S. THEY REQUIRE A MINIMUM SIZE ORDER IN THE THOUSANDS OF SPRINGS. I DON'T WANT TO PAY FOR ALL THAT.

BEEN TO GRAINGER AND OTHER LIKE THEM. THE SPRINGS THEY HAVE, ALTHOUGH THEY COME CLOSE IN DIMENSIONS ARE TOO WEAK (PIANO WIRE).

Some spring manufactures sell sample lots of misc sizes, you might get lucky. I wish I had the book with me, it was a good company for springs.

          Ryan,

Thanks for your interest in trying to help. If you do eventually remember the company name post it.
