    ak builders barrel service ?

    so a go/nogo gauge's will run 65 bucks and i noticed ak builders offers a barrel service @ 75

Send in your barrel, bolt carrier, bolt, rear sight, handguard retainer, gas block, gas tube, pins and front sight and we will put the parts on the barrel. All pieces must be pressed off the demilled barrel stubs.

so has anyone used this service here?
i am a bit concerned about getting the sights on strait and true myself with a virgin barrel, and thinking this may be the way to go since i am only doing one ak and will save me from having to pin the front/rear sights.gas block and barrel also on top of headspace....

any advice guys on ak builders ?

hmmm just notice it doesnt say anything about the trunnion so maybe headspace is not included , but then why would they need the bolt and not just the carrier .... hoping to hear from someone that has used this service ...

thanks for the advice , and please dont take offense , but my eyesight and risk of injury ( and liability ) to anyone including my kids that shoot my weapons is worth much more then a 32 buck gauge vs a improvised calibrated tool

now back to the question asked..

anyone used AK Builders services here ? if so how was there work ?

You should be checking headspace anyways after you reinstall the barrel. Even if you do use his services (I haven't), the difference between good and bad headspace is about .003". I would pick up headspace gauges and check before and after the barrel was installed so that you know what to expect when reinstalled.

BTW, he would need to headspace it to populate it properly.

Personally I would see if a member of The AK-Team here on calguns would do the work.

There was a thread just yesterday about a populated AMD-65 barrel from Curtis and the sights were pressed on canted.

i have been wondering what the "AK-Team" logos where ,i am guess now its experienced builders ?

dont think i have seen anyone with that logo this far north in cali , is there a thread somewhere for that team ...

and thanks for the heads up on the thread on the canted sights i havnt seen it but will search it out , after looking for parts for my build who knows i may end up building another one(or few as funds allow), as i want to build this one stock and maybe do a M92 type look alike as i cant afford a real krink kit... lol i may become a AK junky afterall ...lol

The tape method does work, but it's far from ideal. It's good that you have your head on straight.

To actually answer your question. Many people here have bought kits with new barrels from curtis, but I don't think many have sent him kits to populate. I know in some of the kits there have been some wonky sights, and the occasional headspace issue. Overall though the work is generally good. I will say one thing I don't care for is that I think every one of them I've seen has been drilled for an oversize barrel pin.

On a side note...Some of the "team" is doing barrel work for people now on a limited basis. Hopefully one of them will chime in here.

There are a couple of guys up in the bay area, but most of us are here in the LA/OC vicinity.

There is no thread that I'm aware of. We're just a few builders that like to get together, help people build, drink, and verbally abuse each other on a regular basis.

thanks, and even the bay area is a bit away from me, by about 3-4 hours down I5 ..lol the joys of Nor-Cal , but am thinking once i get everything together for this build , but in no hurry at all (still waiting on apex to send me my kit all i have gotten sofar is a confirmation that they got my $$$) i might have to wait and find a build party to go to just to hear all the verbal abuse just might be worth the trip lol....

i have to be honest i was never a AK fanboy, but the more i have looked the more i am starting to like them ...

thanks all of you for the info and tips
