    AK Headspace gauges

I see that headspace gauges for 7.62x39 are available made to the CIP or SAMMI standard.

For an AK build using a US made barrel, which gauge standard is appropriate?

My SWAG is that a US made barrel would likely have the chamber cut to the SAMMI standard and that an original barrel would be cut to the CIP standard.
However I'm just a n00b and seek to draw from the collected wisdom of CalGuns to make sure there isn't a "surprise vigorous disassembly" whilst at the range.

    TIA.

      Thanx for the reply.

From the link: "These are made to the Russian spec."
I believe that implies that they are CIP gauges.

Have your builds used US or original barrels?

I've used my CIP gauges on 4 original barrels and 1 U.S. barrel... (Though, Only 1 AK was mine)...

If i were you, before you buy them... I'd check to see if anyone in your area would be willing to let you borrow a set. I've loned mine out to CalGunner's in my area before just because the costs for a set of Headspace gauges is kind of big for some guys. ---And I get that... Heck, I only bought a set because it seemed no one in my area had them.

Get the CIP gauges. They'll work just fine for OG and US chambers.

Also I LOVE the term "surprise vigorous disassembly". That's funny sh*t there....the term that is. Not the act it refers to. I know first hand that it sucks hard.

SVD vs KB, it's hard to say which acronym is a more graphic description of an undesirable movement of formerly connected parts.

They both describe what happened, but when I think of kaboom I envision a giant fireball and buildings falling down. IMO "surprise vigorous disassembly" is a more accurate description...either way really
