    Stuck casing Help!

    Hello all,
The story I am about to relate may seem like a dumb and dumber episode but please bear with me as I have definatly learned from my mistakes.

I took my guns out to my parents ranch the other week to sight in one of my new rifles, and as I always do, I verify/adjust some of my current rifles while I'm at the range. I brought along with me 3 rifles, and ammunition for each. After sighting in my new rifle (an su-16 for those interested) I grabbed my weatherby 7mm Mag, loaded a round into the chamber and fired. My wife was the one who handed me the round, and I'm my haste, and utter lack of attention, I accidentally loaded a .303 round into my 7mm Mag. The round went off without a hitch, and cleared the barrel without any noticeable damage. After I verified that the round had indeed left the barrel (this was after a 30 min cool down), I disassembled the rifle, and after jamming the bolt open I Managed to clear the gun completely.

I am now left with 2 components of my rifle that are in need of repair. I have the back of the case (which separated from the rest of the case just above the rim) stuck in the bolt assembly, and I have the rest of the case completely plastered to the inside of the chamber. The rim of the case in the bolt is no sweat and I know how to clear that, however I have no idea how to clear the rest of the casing from inside the chamber. I would rather not take this to a gunsmith until after I have the brass out if necessary and was hoping someone could share a tip or technique on how I might bet this stuck case out of the chamber. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

One trick to try is, after you clear the bolt, load an empty 7mm case and slam the bolt home. Often it will jam inside the stuck case and pull it out. Another think to try is a bigger brush on a cleaning rod. Find one that is tough to stick inside the broken case, but only do as deep as the case. Then, pull it out. The bristles dont like to reverse direction and will grab the walls of the case. Otherwise the proper tool is called a broken shell extractor...they are common in military calibers, never seen one in 7mm but check someplace like Brownells.

thanks for the advice! I have tried the empty case trick with no avail. I found a shell extractor at midway for a 7mm rem Mag but for some reason it will not let me purchase it. :$. I think i will use the shell extractor model to make one of my own. hopefully should work. thanks again!

Try puttting a 30 cal (from chamber end) brush halfway into neck throat and pull back out, bristles taper backwards and grab case most times.

May not work now that you jammed another case into chamber which I would not recomend as first try.

If 30 cal brush doesnt work, select a close fitting tapered pipe tap and partially thread it into body portion of the broken case. Be careful not to cut through the brass and into the chamber wall. Then tap it out from the muzzle with a one piece, bore fitting STEEL rod. If you dont have the mechanical wherewithall to do this, take it to a gunsmith.
