DA/SA to Single Action Only conversion

    Good day fellow CG'ers,

I just read the excellent post: How To Import Off Roster S&W to California!! Instructions from shooting4life

I am trying to DROS a Harrington & Richardson model 976. I've looked at the general (not H&R 976 specific) schematic on numrichs:

I do not see a similar double action sear as in the above article. Is anyone familiar with this model and how to make it single action only?

Another CalGunner gave me the idea to obstruct 8 of the 9 cylinder's charge holes and DROS it as a single shot. I've been to a few online gun parts stores looking for a spare cylinder to weld close but have been unable to find an extra cylinder.

Does anyone know of a non-permanent/ non-damaging qualifying method of obstructing the charge holes to make it a single shot? What about online parts sites that may have another cylinder?

    Thank you for any help

probably could use empty brass with silicon over them to block the cylinders and be considered permanent. should peel off easy enough with some work on your part and not cause any damage. not 100% sure correct me if im wrong.

haha sounds good to me, hopefully someone else with a little more knowledge on the matter could come in and confirm this method. but i dont see why it wouldn't work i know people use silicon to permanently affix their 10/30 ar-15 mag but plates.

Here is the generic schematic for this series of H&R revolvers. Does anyone see what I would remove to make it single action only?

Sounds like you should stick with the conversion to SA route ...

This revolver has a 7.5" barrel and is well over 10.5" overall but I agree that trying to prevent the cylinder from rotating is going further that I'd like.

Edit: I'll make a guess, and it's only a wild a## guess, and free advice is worth what you pay for it: try removing the top of part 14? You need the bottom half for part 16.

America was built on what ifs and maybes, thank you for throwing caution to the wind and putting in your 2 cents.

Seriously though, it will never be fired in this configuration, it just can't cock the hammer when I pull the trigger and of course my ffl may want it to release the cocked hammer when the trigger is pulled.

Hmmm, another question to ask over in the How To Import Off Roster S&W to California!! Instructions thread.

It does look like the top half of 14 is what latches into the cocking lever. Chop it and see
Since we can never hope to understand why we're here, if there's even anything to understand, the individual should choose a goal and pursue it wholeheartedly, despite the certainty of death and the meaninglessness of action.

I don't know if http://stevespages.com/ipb-handr-922.html 's schematic of the H&R 922 helps anymore than Numrich's but all I'm looking for is what to remove or grind off to make this single action only. I'll buy replacement parts to alter and then reinstall the originals after dros.

                      Anyone?

Did you chop off the top of part 14 where it engages the hammer and that didn't work?

Not as easy in this gunas a SW revo. In SW you can yank teh DA sear- this HR uses a link that also operates the hand that rotates the cylinder.

Even if you find parts- these are really wacky for parts replaceemnt... they all tend to need lots of custom fitting- the model numbers and reviiconas re vast- so partsthat say they will fiot this model , may not.

                          Good luck

My revolver came in yesterday and part number 14 should be arriving on Tuesday. I'll break down the 976 and replace part 14 (28 in the above schematic) with the ground down lifter and let you know what happens. I have hollow ground screw drivers but I read somewhere to used hollow ground punches and I don't know what those are. I'm familiar with and will buy cup tip punches ( I think in 3/32" ) but I hope that is what it meant.
