AMD-65 Cleaning Rod Question

How is the cleaning rod supposed to be supported at the end inside the hand grip (heat shield)? When I stick it through the hole in the heat shield retaining bracket, it wants to bump into the front hand grip screw that sticks up into that space. And if the screw wasn't there, it would have no support on that end anyway. The rod I have is 11 5/8 long. Thanks, DL

Special AMD pistol grip nuts. If you don't have it, the cleaning rod will not insert all of the way.

It's only needed for the front pistol grip.
