I put a wooden dowl under the stock release button then closed the stock. This one didn't really need to have a fixed stock though oal and bb were already there.

I'd sell the SL8 then buy a HK 556.

The stock appears to be a Top Notch. They were the first on the block to start the conversion. They work but still not a G36. The stock adds a lot of length to the pull so using the sights or even optics make holding the firearm ackward. Coupled with the heavy barrel, even more so. The mag conversion is also a Top Notch design. The early ones were made out of aluminium and several other companies have used the design since. The Top Notch mag adapter kit came with a new piston and bolt head that has an angled bolt lug that will pick up the bullet from a double stack. All in all, it is a good kit. With a US made mag, you are perfectly 922 compliant without the stock and grip. Nothing close to a Fredie conversion but still fun. I like the gun because it is neat. I run featureless but like you said, the stock will have to be pinned and the flash hider removed. If and when I get the balls and money to hack up a perfectly good receiver, I will be talking to Freddie. As for now, it is still a fun gun to shoot. Not my go to gun but definately adds some good variety.
