Remington 1100 problems

I put a 3" magnum barrel (1 gas port) onto a non magnum receiver. It does not cycle now.
Can I or should I drill an extra gas port in the barrel? I want it to cycle low base shells.
Or should I just sell this barrel and find the non magnum barrel I need (2 gas ports)?
I ordered the drill size I needed for the extra port its about the size of a tooth pick and none of the motors I have will spin this tiny drill.

I wouldn't worry or even want a mossberg 930 v. an 1100.
