Permanent pmag modification

I was pondering the whole CA legal magazine thing, and thought about something I can't seem to find in any posts/forums.

I'm thinking of drilling holes through the magblock and then tackwelding small rods or roll pins through the block to the spring. This would permanently attach the spring to the magblock with the bottom plate.
This way, even when you take the magazine apart, you could not detach the spring from the magblock/bottom plate without destroying the spring and/or bottomplate/magblock. Either way you would destroy the functionality of the magazine If you tried to remove the magblock, so ........ I think this would make it a permanent modification and you would end up with a magazine that you could still dissasemble, to a point, and clean.

Thought? Concerns? Ideas? Accusations?

Does anyone else think this sounds plausible, or am I completely off the reservation on this train of thought for a reason I haven't thought of?

Maybe this weekend I'll have time to do a little tinkering to see if I can make it work.

Maybe you could enlighten me as to the simpleness you refer to?
... I've been reading a lot of threads and would love nothing more than a simple answer, but the there doesn't seem to be a general consensus. I would love to just block the mag and do nothing further, but it seems like more people than not, think that that won't suffice.

Solution

It's pretty simple. No tack welding needed you'll melt the damn thing. No real reason to re-invent.

And rivet the bottom base or epoxy it

Yeah, that rivet is hardly permanent. I drill mine out in under 45 seconds.

You can blowtorch a safe open, but that doesn't make it legal if its not your safe. The wheel exists, and the nannies are apparently okay with said wheel.

Buy 10-round magazines.

The rivet is permanant by "legal" standards. No need to reinvent the wheel on this one.

^^Agreed. Pretty soon they will be spraying expanding foam into the mag bodies.

i dont have mine permanently installed. i leave the origional base plate at home when i bring my modified mags with me. Look at it this way if you take apart a modified pmag you have a a rebuild kit put it back together it still only allows 10 rounds. this way if i ever head out of state i will have some 30 rounders to use vs only 10 rounders.
