    1911 Thin Grip Help

After shooting a thin gripped 1911, I realized that they fit my hand much better than standard thickness grips. So, I decided that I wanted to change the grips on my CBOB to thin grips. This seemed like it'd be super easy, but after much strife getting the standard bushings off (I had to resort to an EZ-Out), I am really hesitant to try to get the thin ones put on. I think I need the special bushing driver head to get them installed without destroying them.

I was hoping someone might have one in the Riverside area and be willing to help me install them or that someone might have some tips for how to get them installed myself, without messing them up.

Any advice or help you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated.

I just used the proper sized screw driver to swap my bushings. You just have to be careful since the bushings are meant to be soft. You can use a bit of blue locktite, but don't over tighten them or you will mess them up.

You can do it with a screwdriver but that's a good way to strip your frame if you're not careful or unlucky. Then your gun is jacked and you'll pay a gunsmith $300 for a questionable fix.

IMHO, you did right looking for someone with the proper tool, if nobody shows up with one I'd suggest you buy one or find a gunsmith that'll do it for ~$40.

Have a smith do it. Pay it once and do it right.

I just had a thought: if someone was willing to ship the bit to me, I could use it and send it back. I know that might sound implausible, but check out my iTrader, I'm a man of my word.

I'd rather meet someone local though.

That'd be awesome! I'll be there right at 11.

I got Ed Brown slim bushings and screws.

A really big thanks to alex45auto and Firepower Depot! A couple of really nice guys who hooked me up and got my bushings installed for me. Couldn't have asked for more knowledgeable people to come to the rescue.

I'd highly recommend anyone looking to get some work done in the Inland Empire to check them out.
