was that buffer tube part of the kit? I've heard there were more problems using the GSE tubes. Does the kit allow you to use a standard length buffer tube, just to eliminate the GSE as the source of the problem

Not a GSE tube, my reference was to how the back cap adjusts.

The kit does include the tube, but the bolt has been machined so the spring goes around the bolt. It looks like the GSE tube but is nothing like it inside.

The whole point is to get the shortest pistol possible. I have other longer AR pistols.

What happened with this setup? I want a super shorty 9mm ar pistol but not at the expense of reliability.

I've been thinking of using a heavy .308 buffer, cutting down a buffer tube, and rethreading for the castle nut and sling plate.

My friend's Young's pistol setup is also unreliable until we figured out that the end cap is not supposed to be threaded all the way till it bottoms out. He needed to back it off some so the pistol will cycle more reliably. He was using wolf ammo. Even figuring out the end cap problem, it was still not 100%.

I think the main problem was the lack of buffer in the design.

            Your gun is overgassed.
It does NOT take a very strong spring to extract/eject.
IF it takes a stronger spring to make a gun function, it's because the gun is overgassed and the extractor is jumping the case.
Fix that problem FIRST before applying patches.

All your other issues besides the 1911 spring stuff are also related to being overgassed.

I think this AR has everything it possibly can going against it. Short barrel, HIGH gas port pressure, weird reduced buffer/short buffer system.

My friend's brother has a FERFRANS pistol which had similar issues- replacing the extractor spring made it work, but ONLY with 5.56 ammo- it gags on PMC .223, and he has a full sized buffer and tube.

An overgassed pistol may be helped with an adjustable gas block, at least it can be tuned to where it's not beating the crap out of itself.
