Hoppe's numero nueve is all I've used to clean. Try some more elbow grease.
Oil things that move and grease things that slide.
Hoppe's oil and Tetra is what I've used.
Don't over do it or you'll be back at square one after your first range trip.

i heard this works great never used it myself but it looks like it will make quick work of the carbon buildup your experiencing
      .
Slip 2000 Carbon Killer is a powerful, non-toxic carbon remover designed for heavy fouling. Soak parts for 15–20 minutes to dissolve stubborn carbon, grease, and grime without scrubbing. Safe for metals, fast-acting, and reusable.

I also use some stainless steel dental picks to break apart some of the carbon build up.
