    TN Guns Romanian PSL/FPK Receiver

There have been a number of PSL build questions lately and I figured I would share some of the issues I ran across during my build.

For a little background I got in on the TN Guns group buy from another forum what was probably two years ago. It was a numbers matching unfired PSL kit with scope, bayonet and Romanian receiver.

The receiver had the scope rail and trigger guard with out mag catch installed like others have noted. I also had the rear trunnion installed.

I finally got around to this build again yesterday and I ran into a ton of issues.

I have a seperate post on what I think is a tapered barrel pin hole. link

I have the issue where to the top cover doesn't fit properly even make contact with the RSB. It just floats out there. This looks like it is a result of a receiver that isn't to spec and is too long. The rear trunnion should be farther forward and the reinforcement plates on the back sides of the receiver aren't even squared up. Someone said there receiver looked like a factory 2nd or it came from a high school machine shop, I would have to agree.

    Since the receiver came with the rear trunnion installed the fix is looking like this;

    1. Demill the rear trunnion
    2. weld up the holes (I don't have a welder)
    3. Drill new holes
    4. File down the receiver to proper length
    5. Re-profile the reinforcement plates to factory
    6. Rivet rear trunnion

The opening for the trigger is too small also. I will need to hand file the sides of the opening to allow the trigger to move.

The fitment of the wooden thumb hole stock was horrible and will require hand fitting but I have come to expect that.

All I can say is count me in when a flat is available. I would be even happier if the flat came with the proper lower rails, center support and receiver reinforcement plates.

I was having a really hard time trying to decide witch receiver to go with. I figured if I had to use a FFL, the nodac wasn't complete enough so I would get the romanian one from centerfire. Or I could get the blank from coldsteel solutions deliver directly to me, but have ALOT of work to do on it. I ended up getting the blank, and from most of the posts I've read, this is probably the way to go. I'll post more on it as I go, this looks to be a really fun build.

and to Curtis, MAKE US SOME FLATS!!!!!

my blank worked great, ya it was a lot of work fitting and filing everything buy from what it sounds like people are having to do this with their 100% receivers.
all i know is i would buy a few flats as well once/if they ever become available

I certainly feel your pain. Thankfully I didn't have the issue you're having with rear trunnion being positioned out of spec - mine was a bare receiver. I did have to file down the trigger channel on the receiver. As others have mentioned elsewhere, most of the time I've spent on it is smoothing out the bolt/carrier travel. When I first riveted everything together, I couldn't get it to move more than a couple of mm. After what felt like hours of filing, I test fired it and noticed that it was cycling really slowly. With additional filing, now it's cycling almost as smoothly as my flat build AKs and Nodak receivers, but we'll see how it fires.

The thumbhole stock wasn't fitting perfectly, but with a little but of sanding of the trunnion and receiver contact areas, it seems to be OK now.

I haven't started with the scope rails, but I'm sure that'll be a real joy when I get to it.

Overall, it seemed like the kit was fighting with me the entire time - nothing fit initially, and every component required some filing (magazine, the mini feedramp on the magazine, bolt hold open channel/center support, everything). But seeing the other posts on the 80% builds, that's no picnic either. Based upon discussions on another thread, I hear this was pretty typical for a regular AK build - we've just been spoiled with Curtis's flats and Nodak receivers that all fit perfectly the first time. Part of the fun is figuring out ways to make the receiver work, so in that sense, I enjoyed the build. There was plenty of frustration, swearing, almost giving up, minor injuries to the hand, etc., however.

Gavin Newsom is a lying, cheating slickster and will be is the worst mistake California has ever made if he gets now that he has been elected Governor. Hollywood movie producers look to him and his oleaginous persona as a model for the corrupt "bad guy" politician character. This guy is so greasy, he could lubricate an entire arsenal of AR-15s just by breathing on them.

I totally forgot to mention the bolt carrier fit. My results are the same as others. I could barely get the carrier into the receiver and it only moves a inch or so by hand.

I had never looked into the Centerfire receiver but it looks to be the same one offered by TN Guns just without the rear trunnion installed.

I guess I have come to expect that a if you buy a receiver vs using a flat it should translate to an easier install. At a minimum I figure if something is installed to the receiver it is done right. Having to redo things the factory did wrong is the frustrating part.
