    PSL scope help

I have just received a PSL parts kit from Centerfire Systems and ponied up for the $99 scope with the kit. The scope that came with the kit is a L.P.S. 4x6 made in 1974 with the battery pack and I.R. detector.

I popped in 2 AA batteries and found that the bulb for the lighted reticle was bad. I unsrewed the bulb holder, broke off the old bulb, and soldered in a high output red LED. I now have a nice red cross hair under low light.

So to my issue. From what I understand, the I.R. detector should have CLEAR glass. Mine appears to be blacked out. I'm not sure if it has paint on it, or if the glass is just missing. I tried to remove the retaining ring so I could try to get a look inside, but the ring has been peened in place. I can't really seem to find any indepth info on this through Google so I'm hoping I can find someone here who can help. I know this feature is really worthless, but it would be nice if it worked.

also, if you happen to have a PSL with the serial number "C9518" This scope went with that rifle.

The IR filters I have on my new strobe light and surefire light are dark blue almost black both lights emit clear white lights when the filters are off. When the filters are in place you can't see the lights w/out NVGs or NODs on or something that allows you to see the infrared light. Otherwise anybody can see the light and use it as an Target. I hope this helps you.
