PSL Barrel Pin Issue

I have run into something I have never seen before while trying to finish a PSL build.

The barrel pin drops in by hand from the left side about 1/4" and is so loose you can spin it around. First I thought the barrel pin was tapered but the result is the same even if I flip the pin over. Now I suspect the barrel pin hole is tapered because from the right side I get a standard barrel pin fit.

I should mention now that I don't think this is the original barrel pin from this kit.

Has anyone run into this before? Are PSL barrel pins tapered and I didn't get the memo?

I am thinking I will get an over sized barrel pin and the corresponding reamer to clean up any taper in the hole unless anyone has any other suggestions.

my barrel pin was not loose at all i had to press it out with the 20 ton press.

My took a direct act from god to get out in one piece. And there is no taper.

I don't know PSL's that well, so I'll leave a definitive response to someone else. I don't believe they, or any AK, use a tapered barrel pin or barrel pin hole.

That being said, I've built original barrel kits where I don't think I got the barrel reinstalled perfectly vertical (or at least reinstalled a couple degrees from what it was originally) and since you are rotating the notch somewhat, I've had it happen where the pin felt too loose at first. I've never had one drop all the way through and usually they snug up just fine.

Can you measure the pin diameter for us?

I am trying to get back to the shop today. I am going to put in another effort to locate the original pin. I will take as many measurements as I can and share them.

At this point unless the original pin seems to match this "tapered" barrel pin hole I am thinking I will go the reamer oversized pin route. I hate to do it on a numbers matching unfired kit but I can't think of anything else.

I just demilled my PSL kit and shattered a press pin trying to get out the barrel pin. The pin would not move even in the slightest pressing from the right side (Ejection port side). I got it by pressing from the left side and when it finally moved, I thought the gun had just fired, "POW" and all the stuff on my press flys around my shop. This was with a 20 ton press also. I measured the pin and have 7.17mm on one end and 7.12mm on the other. the trunnion measures 7.16 on the right, and 7.11. So in fact, it seems like there is a slight taper. with just the trunnion (no barrel) i can push the pin right in on th ejection port side and can't even start it from the other side. With that said, this pin was a P.I.T.A. to get out.

I also had a hard time getting my pin out. However I bought a built Romain receiver and the hole was to big for my pin. I had to use the original Trunnion that came with the rifle.

.0x mm is nothing

pins warp a little bit too from stress and also the side that gets beat in originally from the factory probably mushrooms the end to some tiny degree.

My pin was very tight. 20 ton press barly moved it.
