XD 9 Tactical Barrel needs some fitting HELP

I purchased a stormlake 5.25" barrel for my XD9 tactical 5" pistol. I had hoped it would just be a drop in, but it will not fit. The top of the base where the round seats wont go flush with the slide. I took it to a gun smith who quoted $100 to get it fit but since i paud $175 for the barrel, $275 total just for the barrel seems too much for me so I want to do it myself. Any one have any words of wisdom before i begin or know how to even begin? Hopefully these words of wisdom exclude "Just pay the money and get it done."

rather than focusing on the fact that you will need to spend $100 to get it fitted, I would point out that it's very likely the $175 you have already spent on the barrel will be lost if a novice screws with the barrel.

You can call the barrel maker and ask if they do fitting.
