I've been staring at this excess part I could not Identify what this is and if this is needed as shown in the photo below. All help identifying this part and if beneficial to keep this on is greatly appreciated

That is the base of an aperture sight. The rest of it seems to be missing.

The other one that I WAS SUPPOSE TO GET!! Is a lot nicer. But made a wise choice on keeping it. Flowers for the wifeys suggestion....
Possibly chambered in .308 ......... I just looked down the barrel and noticed the chamber did not look 30-06. Popped in a 308 and it was a nice fit. Whish I knew more about checking chambers but hell if 308 I'm happy. I'm getting this guy from RWC to check it out for me later.
