I want to get a riser to put on an AR platform as the scope is too low for me to keep a comfortable position or accurate for that matter. I see some of them are listed as having a cant of 30 MOA or 20 MOA etc.
I know what the cant is, however, I am NOT familar with how to determine if one is needed or flat preferred. Also, I am not sure if the offset if front to rear or perhaps side to side. Also, is there someplace online that would have the formula to figure out what would be needed. Is it even needed? I was actually ignorant to the fact that there were canted risers in the first place. I presumes they were all just flat anyway.
Can someone elaborate in this for me?

The cant is fore-aft and is to allow for extended ranges w/ less need for extreme elevation adjustment of the scope.
Assuming you are talking about an AR15, unless you are planning to push the limits of the effective range, there is probably little need for a canted riser.

Unless you are shooting really long range, the 20 or 30 MOA mounts are not needed. Just get a flat riser or even better, mounts made for use on an AR like the Burris PEPR type mounts.
