A2 stock removal

So I bought a used lower and want to switch to a carbine stock. I think it's locited down. I put some CLP in the threads, but its on there good. For now I'm just adding more CLP and trying again. Any other ideas?

look carefully at the nut to make sure it was not staked to prevent it loosening. If you see no staking it may have loctite on it.

Heat it up and try to loosen it, heat to defeat the bond of the loctite.

Which part is too tight to remove, the bolt at the back holding the A2 stock itself or the buffer tube itself.

Maybe a soak in Kroil, either way.

That screw at the back holding the stock in uses a really big fat flat head screwdriver, don't use a regular screwdriver as it does not have enough bite. You could also wrap a towel or a strip of rubber around the stock and lightly (but not too lightly) clamp the stock in a vise after soaking in Kroil, and have at it with the big screwdriver. I've got a wood vise that I use for such things, it's one less hassle not to worry about holding the stock while trying to get the screw out.

If it's the buffer tube in the lower that is stuck, and the stock itself is off- use a block in the magazine hole, clamped in a vise. Once the lower is firm, you would have an easier time of unscrewing the buffer tube, using a crescent wrench on the flats at the rear of the tube. Again, soak in Kroil first.

Oh- by the way- don't forget to remove the buffer spring and buffer before doing anything. And then, once the buffer tube starts to unscrew, remember to capture that buffer retaining spring and plunger. I tend to forget that one and launch one every once in a while.

I got the stock off. It's the buffer tube thats stuck. I'll have to go over to my friends house to use a vice.

Soak it with liquid wrench and apply some heat in moderation, thatll loosen just about anything.

Also try to use the wrench or tool near were the buffer tube connects to the reciever that way you will get more power n torque instead of trying to use a cresent wrench at the end of the tube.

A strap wrench works too. But you need a vice and a mag block.

You can use a wrench to take it off if its that bad. 1/2" open end IIRC. there is a place for it on the end of the buffer tube

I wound up using a wrench, a vice and a hammer. Still took some work but that sucker finally came loose. Thanks everyone for the advice.
