    Centerfires Yugo M70AB2 Barrel takeoffs

I was wondering if i could use one of these for my egyption miad kit. I remember reading somewhere you can but i would need to turn down the diameter of parts of the barrel. Is this true? if so it would be a perfect time for me to get some more time on my lathe. Thanks

The barrel profile for the Yugos is larger than the other AKMs.
Yes, lathe work will be needed.
The barrel chamber is .907 for a Yugo, and .908 for your Egyptian.
The only part you will not have to turn down.

Sounds like the perfect opportunity to profile a pistol barrel, you know for practice.

That's what I did. Used a Yugo re-profiled barrel for my Egyptian pistol build.

The gas blocks appear to be in the same location, but it seems the Yugo gas port is a quarter of an inch further forward. It may work.

Not to take from this thread but I have two of these from Centerfire and they both seem to be usable. I am not going to use them if your interested I will make you a good deal on them.

It does work, have made several AKs using those barrels. It does take a bit of lathe work but its pretty easy. Only sucky part is using oversized barrel pins so it doesnt walk back or forward once you set the headspace.

Is it at all possible to not use the oversize barrel pin?
Life is like having a map with precise directions and exact stops, you find out that your directions and stops change as you progress further down your original map.

                              Yes...

                              No

Well, maybe. Once you get it headspaced the barrel pin existing holes tend to be a little too far back on the barrel shank. So if you redrill it at the standard size then eventually the barrel will walk forward and be potentially dangerous and out of right head space. This happened to me but I check my guns every time I go since I thought it could be an issue. Now my AKs have the larger pin. That said, it will "only" walk 10 thousands forward at the most but that is quite a lot out of tolerance.

I highly recommend going with an over sized barrel pin. I use the .302"

I drill the hole with a 19/64 drill bit, the crappier the quality the better

Then make a flapper sander for the dremel and hone out the remaining material until its about 1-2 thousands smaller than the pin.
