Installing a JD Machine Rail

I was chatting with a fellow calgunner about the new JD Machine rail, and how it was alittle different from standard barrel nut rail installs.

(This won't have the actual rail, thats pretty straight forward)

I went down there today and spoke to the gunsmith Justin and he showed me how to do the barrel nut/rail attachment while he was building a 308 upper.

Basically real simple but to clear up the process I took a couple pictures, to illustrate.

Wipe the threads with a water proof type bearing grease. Snug the large barrel nut down and insert a gas alignment rod into the port turn till it slides freely into the gas port hole.


Slide rod into the larger barrel nut and leave in the upper and barrel nut. This will be used as a counter when you install the smaller timming nut.


To tighten you your standard AR armours tool. (I compared the spines to a Yankee hill and other brand they had there and those have different specs. Tighten the timming nut torque to between 30-80fps. Once tighten down if then one of the spines is located infront of the gas port file or dremel off.

Great illustration , this new handgaurd is comfortable to hold, no sharp edges . I was at the Ventura Show when i saw this new product from JD, so i pick one up for my recent build. I bought the model for the 308. Here is the finish project. It's a 308 PISTOL

The 9" rail will be to long for a 7.5 AR pistol build.
