Rmoving blue Locktite (Locktite 242)

Hi, Guys. What is a good way to remove blue Locktite from my reciever and scope base without sctratching everything? I've been scraping with a plastic tool but it's very time consuming and doesn't get all of it. Would heat do it? Are there any common chemicals that would work?

Try heating it up with a hair dryer. That should help removing it.

From the web site, directions for cleanup:

"For disassembly, shear with standard hand tools and remove with methylene chloride. In rare instances where hand tools do not work because of excessive engagement length, apply localized heat to nut or bolt to approximately 482°F (250°C). Disassemble while hot."

heat pretty much works on all types of loctite. not sure if a hair dryer will really get it hot enough but a heat gun sure does the trick real fast.

soldering iron heats up between 700-900 degrees F. I would apply tip to the screw head and hold for about a minute and try to unscrew..if not enough heat I would re-apply soldering iron for another 30 sec. at a time until it gets the screw hot enough to release. More specific heat application than a hairdryer or heat gun. easy to get or borrow a soldering iron.
