    AES-10B canted front sight post

i just picked up my "new" 1989 RPK. 100 rds later im getting frustrated, cant get it on paper at 50 yrds. low and behold my front sight post is canted 10 degrees or so to the left..

is this something i can fix myself? im living in an apartment right now so im limited to hand tools. this is my 4th ak type firearm but all i really know how to do is field strip it.

i contacted the online retailer (i will never buy an ak online again) but its late so i wont hear from them till tomarrow at the earliest.

so.. what do i do? can i send this to an expert?

edit: oh yea, does an rpk need a differant front sight adjustment tool? the windage adjustment seems to be not working for me. wrong size i think

Simplest solution is to install an RPK adj. rear sight, which will be correct for the Romy RPK.

Really?! The RPK adj. rear sight moves quite a bit.

maybe the front sight is off more than i thought. also with out the abillity to move the windage of the post im kinda screwed atm.. maybe a new front sight tool will fix me up but its annoying to pay big buck for a rifle and its effed up

Picture of the canted front sight base. Picture of the front sight post, and rear sight leaf, if you can please.

My AES10 also has the front sight tilted over way to the left. And I threw a side mount scope on it to short term fix it. After building my first AK I am now going to knock out the pins and re-drill it straight. Gotta love Century Arms, or NOT!!

i actually put the scope from my psl on it thinking it would be a straight across fit. i dont know if it needs adjustment or what but its wobbley as heck.

im working on a pic. im having a hard time getting it from my camera (droid) to my computer

right. id say... 5 inches at 50 yards

edited to add: cranked all the way to the left like this made it hard to see around the scope. since it was wobbling any way i took it off.

I don't know what to tell you. That cant doesn't look that bad. There should be plenty of adjustment on the rear sight to compensate for that, and the rear sight leaf doesn't look like it's canted either. Your front post looks like it's dead center. The longer barrel also gives you much more adjustment on the rear sight.

im thinking if i get a better fron sight tool ill be able to move that sucker way over and be a lot happier? i got a tapco right now and it wouldnt budge my front sight windage.

i know we are all thinking "can this guy shoot?" im not the best on the bench but i always managed to qualify expert in the Marine corps so i should be on paper at 50.

lazer bore sighters? stupid or good idea to get on paper?
