We'll see if I'll finally get a response to a post...
I want to make a muzzle brake compensator from my 300 win mag Remington 700. I'm pretty sure I know what I need to do to make it, the only thing I'm not sure about is threading the barrel.
On a stock Remington barrel, is there enough meat for threading? The muzzle measures approximately 5/8", so i was thinking about machining a 5/8 x 18 threaded fit.
Is this an ok size? Since I plan on making the brake as well, I could use any pitch I want if the thread depth needs to be shallower.
I just don't know if I should have a heavy barrel do this with.
