Pistol grip re-thread on AR-15 lower, how much?

As the title states, how much would this run me? I bought a lower, NIB, but second hand. I threaded on a pistol grip bolt, it was tight, then got tighter and tighter...I made a booboo. That, or the pistol grip bolt hole was not 'mil spec'. This lower was a Spikes. The LPK was a Palmetto State Amory. What would this normally run? I'm going to run to a couple of shops tomorrow and see how much, but don't want to get jerked around. Will this cost more than buying a new lower? I hope not

Heli coil it. Reasonably priced and durable. Machine shops should be able to help you out if you aren't comfortable doing it yourself

I don't have a drill press, so I don't feel comfortable drilling out the threads and re-tapping myself.

Try running the bolt from the inside out. If there was a bad thread the bolt might be able to chase the thread.

Curious as the what the thread size/pitch is. I have taps and a thread cleaning file. Where are you located? My phone doesn't show locations

Don't need a drill press. Use a new tap and oil - Go slow and easy...

I should have that tap. I can check first thing in the morning. Or, I'll wait for a location for the OP

Thanks. A bit too far for me to help.

Good thing you didn't smash that lower with a crescent wrench and then throw it into a pond

I concur, first thing to try is chasing the threads (1/4-28 NF). If that doesn't work it's time for a helicoil. I'd want at least $20 bucks to do it for a walk-in. If you were in San Jose, I'd say bring it with a tall can, and I'd do it for free to help out a calgunner.

If ya know any auto mechanic, that is a common thread size. Any self-respecting mechanic should have a tap & die set in his tool box. You can also pick up a cheap set from Harbor Freight for ~$15. Just make sure you're getting the right size, as mentioned above, in the set. (1/4x28)
