Headspace same?

Are the headspace measurments between 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 the same?

There are at least two great AK build tutorials here, one of which mentions "shade-tree" go no-go gauges. Is the 5.45 the same?

same setup just different caliber

I don't think so, they have slightly different shoulder angles, distance to shoulder and shoulder diameters are different. However, since headspace dimensions are to a point on the shoulder cone it is possible they are the same.

if you are talking tolerances between the two after headspacing they would be the same but as far as go nogo guages they are different. the build process and setup the headspacing is the same.

What "shade tree" go/no-go gauges are you talking about? Scotch tape? if your taking that guess at checking headspace, then yes it is the same.
