    Muzzle brake alignment

Can anyone tell me the tolerances for machining and fitting a muzzle brake? I am talking alignment.

Don't have a specific caliber of even rifle in mind, but how accurate will it need to be machined so accuracy is not affected? Also how much clearance is needed at the exit bore for the best brake affect?

I realize that it will have to be very close to accomplish this.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

Give 69 Charger a PM. He can probably give you the measurements you're looking for since he makes custom MB's and FH's. His website is, www.tacticalandtargetsupplies.com. PM me if you want his tele (probably the easiest way to get ahold of him). He's up in Auburn and he's a real good guy.

A good smith will indicate off of bore center line to minimize the possibility of runout to tenths. Threads should be cut to clean standard, and if the brake is positional, rotation should be timed. I suppose if you wanted to hack it on you could theoretically have as much runout as the exit hole would allow and it would still kind of work, and by the same token you could have a positional brake rotated upside down and the gun would still fire. Or, if a brake were installed badly off center the exit hole could be enlarged.... not that any of that should be done but, just sayin things can get ugly yet still function. The closer to perfect the better goes without saying.

This. Use a bore rod and a dial indicator and adjust the chuck till there is close to no runout in the bore rod
