Where to get 1911 80% Frames?

Does anyone know of a supplier for 80% 1911 single stack frames?

I looked at KT Ordnance, they are kind of expensive, and I don't like the finger groove on the front strap. (I could always cut it off I know!)

Does the Tannery Shop still sell these? I don't see the frames on the website.

    Thanks.

Check out the gunshows. I picked up one at the OC gunshow a while back and I saw some at the last Ontario gunshow.

I haven't seen any at the smaller Northern Cal gun shows.

Thanks. I can always count on my fellow Calguners, I have a good lead now.

How hard are these, compared to the AR 80% lowers?
Is there a jig for these also?

Yes, I have seen jigs available that help with SOME of the holes and cuts. Check out KT Ordnance they have one available. www.ktordnance.com I don't own one so I only know what I found on the internet.

Does anyone do a build party for the 1911? It would be great if someone donated mill time, and someone else had the jigs, and someone had a drill press, and polishing equipment. That would be a great weekend project!

Does anyone know of a thread for the NorCal 1911 build party? I would be in on it.

Good to know. I will call them and check for sure. They look like nice frames, with nice machining.

How hard was it to finish? Their frames look like they have more machining done on them at the factory then the cast frames, so less steps for the home gunsmith. That would be a plus!

let put it this way, hand fit is an understatement. i just got it recently and havent started machining it yet. ive tested all the small parts that i can in its current state and the only thing that fit right out of the box was the safety and slide stop plungers.

the only major machining that has to be done is the slide rails and mainspring housing slots. i got their jig to do it and it comes with a couple blueprints and thats it. you have to figure out how to use it on your own. all the other work is just lots of filing and sanding and drill a couple holes.

staying within tolerance is the biggest part of the whole job. blueprints spec a tolerance of +/- .010 unless noted, well 90% of the parts are noted. the realistic tolerance of everything is +/- .005 at best.

with the right tools and a lot of patience its not that tough. without the right tools it will be difficult.

The website picts look like it's in a more finished conditon than a pure casting frame. I would like to see the KT Ordnance frame before purchasing one. Anyone in NorCal with one you want to show off?

Thanks tdaughg. Looks like a nice chunk of steel, nicer than a casting, but I can see that a lot of detail work is still needed (which I don't mind to do). From a feature standpoint, I really don't care for the rail, but I could live with it (call me a traditionalist).
