Naval Jelly works very fast. I didn't have any rust issues when using it.

I like using Evapo-rust. It will remove any oxidize surface finish, leaving you with bare steel. It also prevents rust for about two weeks if left to dry on the surface.

In my experience Evaporust is the first choice, Birchwood Casey Bluing remover the second. Naval Jelly works well too according to a friend of mine.

Metal-Etch by Jasco. Mix per the directions and it will take blue off in about 1 minute. If your water is really cold it may take a little longer. Luke warm water works best. Available at any hardware or paint store.
