What is this AK spring for?

    Hey all,

I was looking on ak builder at their romy g kits and saw this picture:

In all the build tutorials I've looked at I have not seen anything like it or even mentioned. I am just curious if it is required for a build because I can't seem to find one in my kit. The only springs I have from the original kit are the hammer and disconnector springs and I was under the impression that was all that I needed.

    Thanks, Jon.

pretty sure its a full auto part.

ETA: it is a full auto part, that's why it didn't come with your kit. nothing to worry about.

That spring is for holding down the trigger pin and hammer pin from walking. Called Shepard's hook!

There are different variations of these Shepard's hook.

Here are some helpful diagrams on how to install them:

It's a FA part that can be but and used as a sheparpard's crook to hold your axis pins in. But, do yourself a favor and just get a redstar retainer plate instead.

Auto sear spring. Can't use it unless you put in the auto sear pin, which requires some receiver modification such as drilling a hole for said pin, which would be considered a bad thing by some federal agencies.

Thanks guys, I already have one of those red star retainer plates. I just wanted to be doubly sure I was not missing anything vital.

Looks like I am good to go.
