G3 question

I have an old G3 parts kit with the original barrel.

The only mark on the barrel is "1K".

It does not weigh a kilo and I don't think it was number 1,000.

What does this marking indicate?

Maybe the sig of the maker. Is it factory made or contract made?

Sounds like a German barrel. It should have a small eagle stamp on it.

I've been gathering parts for my build for a couple of years where as I started off with an incomplete kit I had enough to build 4 rifles,i still have a couple of extra parts I'm gonna sell once mines is 100% built in march

That's good. You'll learn more piecing one together and it will have better parts in end. I sold my british kit with no barrel. Still want to build a german clone but want to make it a late style, parked, od green standard stock, weld on shell deflector. I'm gonna buy a PTR receiver since I wasn't that good at bending the flats, totally my fault though not reading the instructions. I had all the parts for one build but now all I have is a 60's FMP barrel that has a eagle and iron cross stamp. It is german made with fmp on it.
The barrel is the most important part of any build and your build should start with the barrel. Unless you get a complete kit. I just missed out on a demilled german HK 91 not to long ago ( ) so I bought the FMP barrel for now.

Yeah I have a fmp kit with a ptr receiver, I'm not gonna take a chance to build it I'm mailing it off tuesday to the builder

It's "HK" not "1K". I just looked on my RAW G-3 and it has that stamp. Mine was built using an American receiver with a Portuguese parts kit. The Portuguese rifles were built with German HK machinery.

Portugese have FMP and the portugal crest stamp on them. The markings are different on different years of production but it should have FMP somewhere on the barrel.

From what I remember German barrels have a combo of only 3 digits letters on the barrel just like the furniture. It will have a small eagle on it for sure if it is german.

Sounds like it maybe a POF? Not sure though, not an expert in G3s.

FYI

Portuguese barrel marked next to the trunnion with what looks like a Catholic cross then FMP 03 74. The cross appears to be a hand stamp, like a proof mark. The FMP with the numbers is all even depth and fine, like a machine roll mark. Then there are three upside down numbers that are definitely hand stamped, 191, crooked and different places.

It really looks like "1K" to me. It is a nice, clean, deep marking. This is the only mark on the barrel.

The only marking on mine is the "HK". But is so friggin small I had to break out the magnifying glass. And it is way to small for my crappy camera
