    AK availability

I am considering getting into building AK kits. Is there a finite amount of surplus kits out there? Don't want to set up tools only to find out that these kits aren't available anymore.

There are still plenty of kits around. You just have to keep an eye on different websites. Kind of late to get into building unless you plan on just building standard Romy G kits, or plan on paying a premium for a variety of rifles.

I do want to do a under folder. Romy G's I don't mind. It will take some time for me to save for tools. I think I will buy kits first then get tools.

Your in So. Cal. man, home of AK Build parties. Your in the right section, just scroll down a little. Unless you plan on building several or more ak's, just attend a BP, and use the money towards more kits, instead of the tools.

That's probably the best way. I want to build a couple.

Just attend some BP's or make friends with those of us that already have all the tools.

+1 on the BP idea. Save your cash for kits, flats, and 922(r) parts.

Screw that, buy the tools and a few kits. Burn through a stack of flats and boxes of band aids all the while researching the hell out of any possible issue you have found yourself coming up against.

Having a good base skill set helps, also being humble. Knowing when to ask for help vs keep going and turn a small 50$ issue into destroying a priceless Russian kit that cannot be replaced.

I'm stubborn, I learned all on my own. I am a sheet metal worker with lay out, fabrication, installing and some machining as my back round. That was the biggest help, that and a thirst for knowledge. I want to know how everything works and I intend to find out. Also be willing to share what you have learned. That can open more doors for you and your ability to get experiance building and working with firearms.

The smart, learn from their own mistakes.
The others, well......they just never learn.
