Noob question: What is the difference between tapco G2 single hook and double hook?

    Hey all,

Sorry to bother you, but I am a complete and utter noob when it comes to AK's. I want to start a list on all the parts I would need for a build party in the future.

I thought I had it all figured out until I came across the tapco g2 single hook and double hook trigger/hammer/disconnector sets. It seems like everywhere I look, even on the tapco site, they have identical generic definitions for them.

Are they for different models of AKs? Or, is it much simpler, like just a single stage or two-stage trigger?

Sorry again if its a stupid question, I just want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row before I get ready to order anything.

    Thanks, Jon.

Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

Yes. Some AK guys will jump on here momentarily and mention that a double hook is a solution looking for a problem, but the short story is that you're generally ok with running a single hook.

What are you building? Milled or stamped receiver? Bulgarian, Russian, Romy?

Those answers will help the AK Team answer your question in more/better detail. In the meantime...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOLojVfLSrQ

Man, this is going to open up a can o' worms.
All the flats from AK-builder (where you will be getting your building supplies from) are made for single hook. You can use a double hook, but you will have to modify the flat/receiver a little bit. Stick with the single hook.
These triggers are not like an AR, single and double stage at all, unless you buy one that is specifically made as a "two stage" trigger. Why the extra hook? In case one hook breaks....Someone will chime in..

I was looking at a fixed stock romy flat on ak-builder. I'm not sure if it is milled or stamped.

I never would have thought there was so much variety and differences. It really took me by surprise.

Doesn't really matter. I've used both and it really makes no difference.
I've modified the doubles to work in single cut receivers, I've notched or removed the second hook. I've even cut the receiver for double hooks when the customer swore there was a difference.

                  There isn't.

You haven't really done much research on AK's now have you?

When you do, you'll really appreciate the workmanship that goes into the higher end guns. There are some bastards and there are some beauties out there.

Have not. The thought never even entered my mind until, a little while back, greasemonkey invited me to that build party in the valley coming up here in feb.

Even then, it was just kind of in the back of my mind. I've only been browsing the web on the subject for the last 48 hrs. or so. I guess you can say I am super noobish.

Thanks again for all your guy's help.

Oh, and so, is a romy fixed stock one of those bastard kits? What would you guys recommend for a good, solid, reliable first build. I just want something that will go bang when it's supposed to and shoot semi straight. I'm not goint to bubba it or anything, just slap on a solar tactical for the featureless.

A matching kit with the original barrel intact.
A bastard kit is something like this Polish underfolder. It was a box of mis matched parts and a barrel blank.

There was this one too, this was another box of parts. AMD front end, Yugo bolt carrier, Romy bolt and rear trunnion and some trigger guard I grabbed from the parts bin.

a romy kit is a perfect good solid first build. especially if its a #s matching original barrel kit.

Dang SJ, those look real nice for being little bastards.

Looking on GB it looks like the average price for a romanian G kit is about $400 with original barrel. Is that about right?

Too bad I don't get too keep any of the guns I build. Find something with the OE barrel, try to buy face to face if you can.
